Official Site: Redford Theatre Special Thanks to Kyle Byrd The original KING KONG will be playing this weekend at the Redford Theatre in Detroit. Nearly 75 years after it first premiered, Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsacks KING KONG remains one of the greatest fantasy films ever made. Fay Wray lights up the screen as Ann Darrow, the Beauty who drives the Beast to distraction, with support from the great Robert Armstrong as Carl Denham, Bruce Cabot as first mate Jack Driscoll, and the astounding visual effects work of Willis OBrien. Released during the lowest depths of the Great Depression, KING KONG struck a cord with audiences eager for an escape from their miseries. The film became a great critical success and a box office sensation that saved RKO from bankruptcy. KING KONG also inspired generations of filmmakers and decades of "giant monster on the loose" movies. The Redford Theatre is run by the non-profit Motor City Theatre Organ Society, and is located at 17360 Lahser Road, Detroit MI 48219. KING KONG is showing Friday, July 20 at 8:00pm, and Saturday, July 21 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm. Ticket prices are only $4.00. Dont miss this rare opportunity to see KING KONG as it was meant to be seen- large as life on the theater screen.
