Super G Offers First-Ever Kaiju Convention Experiences in Canada
Special Thanks to Avery Guerra and Tim Bean

Brimstone Games presents the Northern National Collectors’ Convention (Northern National) is pleased to announce the launch of its Super G program this fall at Caesars Windsor, from September 29 to October 1, 2023.

“Super G will represent an entire fandom dedicated to the culture of the kaiju film franchises,” says Northern National president, Jeremy Renaud. “Kaiju translates to strange beasts in the genre of Japanese giant monster movies. For fans, Super G will offer first-ever Kaiju convention experiences in Canada.”

Super G will offer fans a variety of guest celebrities and artists, direct from Japan and around the world, who worked on Kaiju franchises making either their first-ever or first-Canadian convention appearances. Inclusion opportunities feature program panels, contests, experiences, theatrical showings, collectables, cosplay, and more.

Though Super G will focus on Japanese giant monsters, both past to present, it will reach beyond to a broader scope that encompasses anime and related horror.

“Super G was never originally intended in the initial design of this convention,” says Renaud. “It was spurred out of a meeting with Tim Bean, an agent and proprietor for his agency Japan’s Legends, that had evolved these past two months. Working with Tim and his team, discussion led to interest and eventual brand development.”

“I’m thrilled to help lend our expertise and core series clients who will attend the Northern National this Fall, says Japan’s Legends owner, Tim Bean. “Our team united quickly with Jeremy’s so much so that our liaisons in Japan, Maki and Tetsuya Takarada were instrumental in developing the brand through its early concepts and eventual classic hand-brushed strokes.”

“The name Super G itself evolved from an unrelated expression that my relative Justin Asuncion and I used over 20 years ago that was an expansion of G, which meant cool at the time,” says Renaud. “Super G between us directly meant super cool!”

The Super G brand has both Japanese and English concepts. It also features the national colour palette of both Canada and Japan. Renaud hopes the palette will “foster collaboration and grow a sense of unification between the two nations.” The original hand-brushed design was made by Maki and Tetsuya Takarada, descendants of a renowned Japanese actor Akira Takarada. Jared Di Pietro, a designer belonging to Duke Marketing Agency then created the brand.

“The program, sponsored by local area business Scarehouse Windsor, will reveal some unique surprises and activations this fall,” says Renaud.

    About the Convention

The Northern National Collectors’ Convention (Northern National) will take place inside the Augustus Tower at Caesars Windsor, September 29-October 1, 2023, in tandem with the Windsor Fan Experience (WFX). The inaugural show will be billed as Northern National presents Windsor Fan Experience.

The Northern National will have all the accents of a traditional card expo but will more importantly enable the Trading Card Game (TCG) community (inclusive of brands ranging from Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Disney Lorcana, and Dragon Ball Z) to have a national presence in Canada. Inclusive of WFX, it will be a hybrid convention that has all the trimmings of a pop culture event with celebrities, athletes, and much more.

The show is led by local Windsorite and lifelong Riverside resident, Jeremy Renaud, collaborating with an amazing organizing committee who have worked together on events across Canada and the US.

Renaud launched the inaugural Northern National in his hometown of Windsor, Ontario as a silent nod to the birthplace where his passion for both collecting and the industry started.

Though the inaugural Northern National will take place in Windsor, Ontario, the show will be moved to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in 2024 with the potential opportunity to setup on a quadrennial rotational cycle to other markets across Canada. The Windsor Fan Experience will then remain in the local area as a legacy of the Northern National in the community where it was launched.
