In November 2018, Toho Co., Ltd. released the thriller STOLEN IDENTITY (?????????????, Sumaho o Otoshita Dakenanoni). The movie, based on the acclaimed mystery novel He Just Dropped His Smartphone, written by Akira Shiga, was a hit that ended up earning 1.9 billion yen at the box office so the studio made the safe bet with STOLEN IDENTITY 2 (????????????? ???????, Sumaho o Otoshita Dake Nanoni Toraware no Satsujinki), a sequel adapted from the second book in the series, which traces the outcome of a new crime several months after the events of the first story. In the first movie, a man loses his smartphone, It is found by a serial killer, who hacks the phone and then begins stalking the man`s girlfriend. Depicting an ever-present danger that could befall anyone in contemporary society, the movie reveals the potential horrors of our social media age where a small detail in our networked society can potentially wreak havoc with people’s lives. The sequel ups the ante over its predecessor in scale as it sets the police on a massive cyber-criminal hunt, a story that resonates deeply with the smartphone generation. STOLEN IDENTITY 2 opened earlier this year in Japan and is now being offered for international sales by TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System Television). STORY Several months after the police closed the case on Yoshiharu Urano (Ryo Narita), a serial killer who preyed on women with long black hair, new unidentified body is discovered at the same crime scene. Detective Manabu Kagaya (Yudai Chiba) once again confronts Urano, the imprisoned murderer he arrested, in order to uncover the truth. “Did you do it?” he asks. But the imprisoned Urano will only reveal the existence of a “M”, a dark web mystery man whom he refers to as his master. At the same time, Kagaya’s lover, Minori Matsuda (Mai Shiraishi), is being targeted by an unknown perpetrator. The detective must make a tough decision to recruit Urano’s assistance to protect her.
