The Ghoul and Godzilla Take Over Detroit`s Redford Theatre Saturday!

Author: Philip Garnecki Official Site: Redford Theatre This Saturday, October 24, the horror host known as the Ghoul will present two classic Godzilla films at the historic Redford Theatre in Detroit. The films shown will be SON OF GODZILLA and GODZILLA VS. MONSTER ZERO (aka INVASION OF ASTRO-MONSTER). The Ghoul, aka Ron Sweed, was a fixture on local television in the Detroit and Cleveland areas in the 1970s. His shows were known for humorous sound effects played over low-budget sci-fi and horror movies, and host segments characterized by bizarre humor, abuse of his diminutive sidekick Froggy, and his propensity for blowing up model vehicles with firecrackers. The Redford Theatre is an old-style movie palace located on the outskirts of Detroit, MI. Currently owned and operated by the Motor City Theatre Organ Society, the Redford is the only theatre in the area to have its original pipe organ. The organ is played before screenings, during intermissions, and as accompaniment for silent films. The Redford also has a balcony, a full-size stage for the Ghoul to do his thing, and beautifully restored Japanese décor that make it the ideal setting for a Godzilla double feature! SON OF GODZILLA (1967, 84 min.) will be shown at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 23. MONSTER ZERO (1965, 93 min.) will follow that same evening at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $7.00 for each show. Concessions are very reasonably priced, with proceeds going to the maintenance and restoration of the theatre, which is run by friendly all-volunteer staff. The Redford Theatre is located at 17360 Lahser Road, Detroit, MI, 48219. Attached, fenced-in parking is available at no extra charge. If the place looks familiar, perhaps it`s because the Redford Theatre is featured prominently in early scenes of the hit 2015 Detroit-lensed independent horror film IT FOLLOWS.
