    Toho has commented on GODZILLA MINUS ONE (ゴジラ-1.0, ゴジラマイナスワン, Gojira Mainasu Wan) today receiving a nomination for best visual effects for the 2024 Academy Awards...

    GODZILLA MINUS ONE is nominated for an Academy Award for BEST VISUAL EFFECTS. The film has made history as the first Japanese Language film to earn a nomination in the VFX category and the first Oscar Nomination for the GODZILLA Franchise!
     
     
    We're thrilled with our Academy Award nomination for GODZILLA MINUS ONE in the category of best visual effects. So far the film has made numerous best of lists, and boasts the largest box office ever for a Japanese film in the US. The film remains on screens all across the country and GODZILLA MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR can be seen in theaters starting Friday, January 26th for one week only.
     
    In addition to being the writer and director of the film, Takasho Yamazaki also served as VFX supervisor.

    “We were all at Shirogumi’s studio in Chofu, Tokyo, and watching the announcement live.”

     

    What does this mean to you and the fans?

    “We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the many people who have supported the film and helped us get this nomination. I hope everyone is excited by this announcement!”

     

    What does this mean for Godzilla globally and in Japan?

    “I feel that the times have changed in that the character Godzilla is able to be nominated for an Academy Award. I think it is a wonderful day for Godzilla!”

     

    What are you most excited about attending the ceremony

    “For us Japanese, the Academy Awards is really a "very far away place," a place we have seen on TV and admired from afar. Being able to step into such a place with Hollywood is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we can’t wait!”
