FIREWORKS (?????????????????????, Uchiage Hanabi, Shita Kara Miru ka? Yoko Kara Miru ka?, 2017), the first of five new titles announced by GKIDS presented through Fathom Events, will premiere in movie theaters nationwide on July 3 with encore showings on July 5 and 7. A film by Akiyuki Shinbo and Nobuyuki Takeuchi, FIREWORKS -- aka FIREWORKS, SHOULD WE SEE IT FROM THE SIDE OR THE BOTTOM? -- is the newest release from Toho animation and producer Genki Kawamura, following the worldwide blockbuster YOUR NAME (?????, Kimi no Na wa., 2016), the highest-grossing anime of all time. It will be shown in both its original Japanese version and a new English-language version produced by GKIDS. As with YOUR NAME, FIREWORKS is a tale of star-crossed teenage lovers with a sci-fi fantasy twist. Shy Norimichi and fast-talking Yusuke, are goo-goo-eyed over the same elusive classmate, Nazuna. But Nazuna, unhappy over her mother’s decision to remarry and leave their countryside town, plans to run away and has secretly chosen Norimichi to accompany her. When things don’t go as planned, Norimichi discovers that a glowing multi-color ball found in the sea has the power to reset the clock and give them a second chance to be together. But each reset adds new complications and takes them farther and farther away from the real world -- until they risk losing sight of reality altogether. FIREWORKS tells a simple story of adolescent longing that taps deep wells of emotion. It is tale of youthful wistfulness, missed opportunities and long-ago dreams, of the urgency of young lovers, and the desire to create a separate universe, a magic place outside of time, where they can be together. Run Time: 1 hour 45 minutes Tuesday, July 3 at 7:00 p.m. local time (English subtitled) Thursday, July 5 at 7:00 p.m. local time (English subtitled) Saturday, July 7 at 12:55 p.m. local time (English dubbed) Tickets for FIREWORKS can be purchased online by visiting fathomevents.com/events/fireworks or FireworksMovie.com and at participating theater box offices. Moviegoers throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy these events in nearly 500 select movie theaters.
