After the phenomenal success of last year’s film festival and convention, Bay Area Film Events is back in 2025 with two Godzilla events you won’t want to miss!

The first is our Godzillafest Film Festival July 18-20 at the Balboa Theater. Continuing our annual tradition of bringing the best Godzilla films to the big screen, BAFE will have a weekend of Godzilla films rotating on two movie screens.
This year is a big anniversary year, so look for films celebrating their release dates from the 50s to the 2000s. Movies like GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN, MONSTER ZERO, FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD, TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA, GODZILLA VS DESTOROYAH, GIANT MONSTER GAMERA and more. Full schedule will be coming out soon and we will have our traditional toy and art vendors in the lobby with the latest Kaiju goods!
Then, coming Sept 19-21 is our second Godzillafest Convention! We’re moving to bigger quarters, this year’s event will take place at the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway. The new venue has room to spread out, keeps all activities in one area and is still close enough to Japantown for those wanting to experience the culture that brought us the King of the Monsters.
This year’s convention will feature a full dealers room, a panel/interview room, a game room with pinball, video games and card tournaments and a roster of special guests!
Special guests will include Tomoko Ai, best known for her role as Katsura, the human cyborg who housed Mechagodzilla’s controller in her stomach from TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA. Also joining us will be suit actor and storyboard artist Hurricane Ryu! Ryu played such fan favorite monsters as King Ghidorah (1991), Baby Godzilla (in GODZILLA VS MECHAGODZILLA 2), Godzilla Jr. (in GODZILLA VS DESTOROYAH) and Battra (in GODZILLA VS MOTHRA 1992). Our third guest is returning favorite TJ Storm, the motion-capture actor that brought Godzilla to life in GODZILLA (2014) and GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS (2019). He was also featured recently in CAPTAIN AMERICA BRAVE NEW WORLD as the Red Hulk.
Two other guests that will be appearing this year are authors Steve Ryfle and Ed Godzisewski. Steve and Ed were the writers of the Ishiro Honda biography, Ishiro Honda: a Life in Film, From Godzilla to Kurosawa and this year’s all new Godzilla The First 70 Years, which was written with the full cooperation of Toho Studios. Books will be available at the show.

Kicking off the convention will be a meet and greet dinner with all the above guests and the Godzillafest crew. This will take place at the Fermentation Lab in Japantown. Attendees will get a chance to hang out and talk with the guests, while savoring some of the Fermentation Labs’ signature dishes. This is a special event with limited tickets, so book yours early!
The Godzillafest dealers room will feature toy and art vendors, official Godzilla licensees, an autograph area with the guests and many more surprises.
The panel room will feature interviews with our guests, Godzilla expert presenting discussions on various Godzilla topics, as well as companies talking about their latest upcoming products.
The game room is new to this year’s convention. We are working on it now, but are planning Godzilla pinball machines, video games (play your favorite X-Box, PlayStation and Game Cube classic Godzilla games) and a special card tournament!
In conjunction with the new and improved convention and returning film festival, we have launched a whole new website dedicated to both events. There are areas for ticket sales, dealer registration, forms for volunteers, a blog and the latest information on everything going on at both events. You can access it at godzillafest.com
Come back frequently for the latest news and also sign up for our mailing list!
Tickets for the September convention and guest dinner are available now and you can get them through our website. Tickets for the July film festival will be available soon and we will have links to the Balboa box office for those very soon!
Join us and help us grow this convention into an annual event we can all enjoy and be proud of!
Much more infomation about this festival will be announced soon, so please check back here and visit the official site: https://www.godzillafest.com/
