The wait is over! On March 15, 2011, Shout! Factory will unleash the final two films in Daiei Motion Picture Company`s illustrious Gamera franchise: GAMERA VS. ZIGRA and GAMERA: THE SUPER MONSTER! Witness twice the excitement as Gamera takes on the malevolent underwater alien creature Zigra and then revisits each of his deadliest foes on by one while trying to save the word! Both films feature newly remastered transfers in their original Japanese language as well as English dubs. Until the partnership of Shout! Factory and Kadokawa Pictures in May 2010, the original Gamera films were woefully underrepresented on DVD in the United States, especially in featuring the authentic original Japanese versions of the films. But that has changed with the recent releases of GAMERA THE GIANT MONSTER, GAMERA VS. BARUGON, the two double feature collections GAMERA VS. GYAOS/GAMERA VS. VIRAS and GAMERA VS. GUIRON/GAMERA VS. JIGER and now GAMERA VS. ZIGRA/GAMERA: THE SUPER MONSTER. GAMERA VS. ZIGRA (???????????, Gamera tai Shinkai Kaijuu Jigura, 1971) was the last Gamera movie produced before Daiei`s bankruptcy in 1971. In this environmentally-themed film, Gamera protects two of the most annoying kids in movie history from the shark-like alien Zigra. Unlike the previous Gamera sequels, ZIGRA was not acquired for distribution by American International Pictures and remained unseen in the United States for nearly twenty years until it was finally released to television and home video by King Features Entertainment in 1987. The American version features an infamously horrible English dub ("I want a Coke!") from Sandy Frank Film Syndication, which was later lampooned in the third season of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000. GAMERA VS. ZIGRA has a running time of approximately 87 minutes.

After being purchased by the Tokuma Shoten Publishing company, Daiei returned to film production... albeit on a much smaller scale than in the 1960s. Gamera series director Noriyaki Yuasa and writer Nisan Takahashi returned to the franchise for the final time with GAMERA: THE SUPER MONSTER (???????, Uchuu Kaijuu Gamera, 1980). A young boy named Keiichi (Koichi Maeda) befriends three alien superwomen (led by pro wrestler Mach Fumiake) who are defending the Earth from the space invader Zanon and his henchwoman Giruge (Keiko Kudo). Zanon`s plans of conquest involve unleashing giant monsters previously defeated by Gamera, so the flying turtle returns to save the day once again via stock footage from all of the films in the series. SUPER MONSTER also includes a cameo appearances by the Space Battleship Yamato and Galaxy Express 999. The movie was syndicated to television in the United States by Filmways Pictures, making its American debut on MTV in 1981. GAMERA: THE SUPER MONSTER has a running time of approximately 92 minutes. Shout! Factory`s double feature collection includes: • Newly restored anamorphic widescreen transfers • Original Japanese language audio • English dubs • Publicity Gallery The GAMERA VS. ZIGRA/GAMERA: THE SUPER MONSTER DOUBLE-FEATURE COLLECTOR’S EDITION DVD has a suggested retail price of $19.93.
