MONSTER SEAFOOD WARS is the latest production from writer/director Minoru Kawasaki, the internationally renowned cult filmmaker behind such works as THE CALAMARI WRESTLER (??????, Ika Resur?, 2004), THE WORLD SINKS EXCEPT JAPAN (????????, Nihon Igai Zenbu Chinbotsu, 2006), CRAB GOALKEEPER (?????????, Kani G?ruk?p?, 2006), MONSTER X STRIKES BACK/ ATTACK THE G8 SUMMIT! (??????????????????, Girara no Gyakush? / T?yako Samitto Kiki Ippatsu, 2008), EARTH DEFENSE WIDOW (???????, Chiky? B?ei Mib?jin, 2014) and KAIJU MONO (?????, Daikaij? Mono, 2016). Kawasaki specializes in comedic movies, often featuring monsters and anthropomorphized animals, that use “Kigurumi Tokusatsu," the traditional Japanese effects technique involving performers in full body suits. The inspiration for MONSTER SEAFOOD WARS came from an unmade project by Japan`s greatest special effects artist. "In a movie planned by Eiji Tsuburaya before the war, a giant octopus landed in Tokyo and went on a rampage," Kawasaki explained. "The army killed it with a vinegar gun at the foot of Mt. Fuji, and the people ate it at the end. This idea was turned into GODZILLA, but the Japanese monster movies began with an octopus, an extremely ridiculous one. I wanted to recreate that world and produce it with the costume special effects that I have always used." Minoru Kawasaki has brought in The Solitary Gourmet author Masayuki Kusumi to supervise the production. The screenplay was co-written by Kawasaki`s longtime collaborator Migita Masakazu (ULTRAMAN TIGA, DEATH KAPPA), and the monsters were designed by Reijiro Kato (KAIJU MONO). MONSTER SEAFOOD WARS stars Keisuke Ueda (KAMEN RIDER WIZARD, BLACK CROW 1) and idol singer Ayano Yoshida Christie (46 Nogizaka). Shooting will start this month, and filming of the special effects sequences will begin in October. Synopsis

Yuta, a young master at the Tsukiji Fish Market, accidentally drops his meal of mixed seafood into the Sumida River. Some time afterwards a gigantic mutated squid monster arises from the depths and begins to wreak havoc upon an awe-stricken Tokyo. Attempts by the Japan Self-Defense Forces to stop the creature prove futile. As it seems things couldn`t get any worse an enormous mutant octopus monster emerges from the deep and heads into a clash of the titans with the gargantuan squid! As a last ditch effort, the government forms the "Seafood Monster Attack Team (SMAT)" and an all-new plan of attack is immediately put into action. But just as the tide appears to be turning in humanity`s favor, a colossal crab monster appears, joining in the Monster Seafood Wars and plunging the world into culinary chaos...
