In 2018, Capcom’s inch-perfect execution of Monster Hunter: World earned them critical acclaim and helped to grow their audience. Now, in 2019, there is a new wave of monsters earning the awe of the western audience.

In 2014, one of Japan’s most infamous monsters screeched back into the limelight in the movie GODZILLA. Easily one of the best monster movies ever made, GODZILLA rekindled people’s love of the kaiju theme. Now, in 2019, we finally get to see the sequel, with Godzilla being joined by many of his most feared enemies. In the first film, it was established that, despite the huge amount of damage that it causes, Godzilla keeps balance in the world and effectively protects humanity. Now, in GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, which is set for release in May 2019, if you look into the trailers released so far, Godzilla will face Ghidorah, Rodan, Mothra, and possibly some other beasts. Long-standing fans of the franchise are excited to see Godzilla take on some of its most dangerous enemies, while newcomers are very excited to see how a big-budget movie brings these creatures to life.

Some Japanese monsters are born from legend, others for the sole purpose of entertainment, but this monster looks set to dominate his domain for years to come. Boxing is back, with more exciting pugilists across the divisions than there has been for a long time, but one of the most dangerous of them all is the one they call ‘The Monster’. Born in Zama and honing his skills in Yokohama, Naoya ‘The Monster’ Inoue boasts a 17-0-0 record with 15 of those wins coming by way of knockout, and he’s still only 25-years-old. Inoue may only be 5’5’’ and fighting in the bantamweight division, but the world champion is a giant in the sport right now, boasting tremendous power which has stopped all but two of his foes. Now, as the next round of the World Boxing Super Series draws near ‘The Monster’ is heavily favoured to defeat a fellow undefeated world champion, Emmanuel Rodriguez. If you have a look at the odds, Inoue is at 1/10 to win with Rodriguez at 5/1, so they’re expecting a dominant and convincing display from the Japanese boxer.

A new age of Pokémon is coming. Not only is the eighth generation of the classic game going to be bringing in a new wave of creatures, but it’ll also be the first instalment to be played on a home console. With the Nintendo Switch, aspiring Pokémon masters can now undergo their adventure in the console’s handheld form or on television. Since the announcement of Pokémon Sword and Shield at the end of February, the world has been buzzing about the three new starters who you can click to see here as well as every potential screenshot leak which may or may not reveal more information on the upcoming game. Everyone is already debating which of Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble the best is and who they’ll pick. In late 2019, Pokemon will once again take the world by storm; until then, the focus will be on predicting what monsters are on the way.
