Anime Expo was held again this year at the Los Angeles Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles, California. The event was, as always, attended by many thousands of fans from across the country (more than 100,000 people attended according to official statements from the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation). Many of these fans were wearing everything from simple to stunningly elaborate costume creations from a wide range of sources including anime, manga, Japanese culture (such as many Morning Musume and various visual kei bands), as well as those dressed in the style of Elegant Gothic Lolita (EGL). Anime Expo featured a huge vendor room with hundreds of vendors selling a wide range of wares, including clothing, accessories, posters, figures, manga and anime, and all sorts of interesting collectibles. Several of the large companies involved in the manga and anime industry were there to show off their newest releases and promote their other products as well. The event was well attended by people from the industry as was evident from the number of industry panels and industry screenings of new shows and movies. These companies showed that they care about what their fans think as they interviewed people who were leaving some of the screenings asking their opinions on what they had just seen. Anime Expo is guaranteed to have something to appeal to everyone, from panels to game rooms, to show and movie screenings that run 24 hours a day during the entirety of the event. The various panels had a wide range of appeal as well and spanned everything from anime and manga to cosplay and EGL and industry features, appealing to children and young adult interests, as well as adult only panels focusing on the adult industry side of the anime movement. We look forward to attending Anime Expo next year!
