The Korean film company and distributor CJ E&M Pictures, the film department of CJ E&M which was previously known as CJ Entertainment, has released two new teaser posters and an advance trailer for the 3D monster movie SECTOR 7 (7??, Chil gwanggu). The first poster design is basically the same as the advance teaser image which was released last December, but with slightly revised artwork, the Korean title logo and a tag line which reads "Off the southernmost tip of Jeju-do, 2,500 meters below in the ocean depths... something is there (or `something exists`)." The other teaser poster is specifically designed to introduce Korean audiences to the main characters from the film. And the trailer does finally show some brief glimpses of the creature. SECTOR 7 is a joint production of CJ E&M Pictures and JK Film, the production company of director Youn Je-kyun which was previously responsible for HAEUNDAE (???, released in the US as TIDAL WAVE), the 2009 box office smash in Korea. The film is about a group of workers on a deep sea oil prospecting platform called `Eclipse`, located south of Jeju Island, who struggle against a hostile undersea creature. The lead character Cha Hae-joon (Ha Ji-won) is the marine equipment manager for the rig. Shortly before the Eclipse is to be shut down, new captain Jeong-man (Ahn Seong-gi) suggests conducting one last drilling operation. During the procedure, a new recruit sinks to the bottom of the sea when his equipment fails. Shortly thereafter, crew members begin to turn up dead, one by one, their bodies viciously mutilated. The few remaining survivors soon discover a transparent underwater creature they encountered once before has infiltrated the ship through the drilling pipe and been feeding on the crew. Now Cha Hae-joon and her colleagues find themselves in a frantic fight for their very survival. SECTOR 7 is directed by Kim Ji-hoon, who is well known by Korean audiences for his 2008 drama MAY 18 (??? ??, Hwaryeohan hyuga), which depicted the 1980 Gwangju pro-democracy movement. Kim is also tapped to direct TOWER (??), the upcoming TOWERING INFERNO-esque disaster film about a giant skyscraper in Seoul that is engulfed by fire. Actors Sol Kyung-gu (who also starred in HAEUNDAE), Son Ye-jin and Kim Sang-kyoung (MAY 18) are set to topline TOWER. Starring Ha Ji-won (Youn`s HAEUNDAE and MIRACLE ON 1ST STREET), Ahn Seong-gi (SLEEPING MAN), Lee Han-wee (CITY OF GLASS), Park Cheol-min (MAY 18), Oh Ji-ho (MY WIFE IS A GANGSTER 3), Song Sae-byeok (MOTHER) and Cha Ye-ryeon (DOREMIFASOLASIDO) and Park Young-su, SECTOR 7 is now in post-production and will open in Korea on August 4th. The film was previously picked up for release in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and France. During the Cannes Film Market (running May 11th through the 22nd) SECTOR 7 has been pre-sold to a number of international distributors including MFA+ Film Distribution (Germany), Shooting Stars LLC (United Arab Emirates), VSG (Indonesia, the Philippines), Serenity Entertainment International Co. (Taiwan), and BHD Co., Ltd. (Vietnam). There is still no word yet on distribution in the United States or other English speaking territories.
