    J-HORROR SPECIAL ON IFC

    This month the Independent Film Channel is running TERROR FROM TOKYO, a new documentary about Japanese horror films. The half hour special covers the evolution of the horror genre from the classic ghost stories through GODZILLA (1954) and the wave launched by SCARY TRUE STORIES (1991) and the RING films to the recent downturn caused by constant repetition and remakes. TERROR FROM TOKYO focuses on producer Takashige Ichise (RING, JU-ON, DARK WATER, INFECTION, THE GRUDGE) and director Hideo Nakata (RING, DARK WATER, THE RING 2) with a visit to the set of their upcoming movie, the period piece KAIDAN (Ghost Story, 2007). Also included are comments by Hiroshi Takahashi (author of the Ring series), Norio Tsuruta (director of RING 0), Takashi Shimizu (director of JU-ON and THE GRUDGE), Chiaki Konaka (writer of Marebito and ULTRAMAN TIGA), Japanese horror expert Nicolas Rucka, Stephen Susco (screenwriter for THE GRUDGE), Tom Holland (director of CHILD’S PLAY), Roy Lee (producer of the US remakes THE RING and THE GRUDGE), Sean Cunningham (director of FRIDAY THE 13th), and Andrew Douglas (director of the AMITYVILLE HORROR remake).
