Hip-hop singer Funky Kato stars in the feature film SABUIBO MASK (???????, Sabuibomasuku) from Toei. Described in press materials as a "masochistic comedy", the movie will blend live-action, animation and musical numbers. SABUIBO MASK opens in Japanese theaters on June 11th. In Japan, it is common for people in country towns to move to the big cities for work or a better life. As the towns empty, the shopping areas become streets of shuttered buildings. Trying to reinvigorate his dying locale, a hot-blooded youth named Haruo (Funky Kato) begins performing a daily "one man live" show on his mandarin orange box. He wears a memento of his father, a wrestling mask. The mystery of the masked singer creates a buzz among the residents, but will it be enough to save his hometown?
