A brief overview of the eSports themed hotel scheduled to open in Osaka in 2020

Anyone who is planning to visit Japan and is thinking about a place to stay, the first decision she/he would need to make is whether to stay in a modern-day hotel or a conventional inn (also referred to as ryokan). In the event that you opt for the former, you will next need to decide what type of a modern hotel you’d like to book a room in? Whether it will be a no-frills pro-level business hotel? A super luxury hotel? Or a compact kind of capsule hotel? Or, an upcoming and fourth alternative -- an eSports hotel?! If you’re someone who’s into competitive video games and is well-versed with the top-rated eSports titles played in all parts of the world, it would be music to your ears that Japan is soon going to have an 8 story building in which only 4th to 8th floors will have the guest rooms; the first 3 floors of the building will be all about massive gaming areas featuring all kinds of eSports.

This massive gaming area will have over 70 high-end gaming personal computers and new age live streaming equipment, normally used for eSports tournaments. The 7th floor of the hotel will have special accommodations including in-room gaming PCs. This hotel will be known as e-Zone Denno Kukan. The Japanese term ‘Denno Kukan’s’ literal translation is ‘Electric Mind Space’. It’s also the Japanese term for the English word ‘Cyberspace’. Targeted at eSports enthusiasts Denno Kukan will soon be opening its doors to the general public. It is situated in Nipponbashi, the downtown district in Osaka, the city which also boasts of the headquarters of SNK and Capcom, the premier fighting game developers of Japan. These two entities are considered the grand daddies of Japan’s competitive gaming industry. The hotel will also be surrounded by several Japanese pop culture, manga and anime on the city’s Otaku Road. The owners of the hotel have told the press that they are working towards making it an idea destination for people who wish to experience the best of eSports during their stays, and also get a chance to hold in-person meetings with their online friends. It could also be used as the perfect location to continue honing one’s gaming skills, especially if a person is in Osaka and is about to participate in an eSports tournament. The place will hold a lot of resemblance to a regular gaming café, but with the hotel facility to make it convenient for seasoned gamers. It’s worth noting that it’s not the first themed hotel ever built. There are many interesting kinds that are already there. You can go through some on this page at BBC website. The tariff structure of the hotel is yet to be announced, but keeping in mind that the 94-bed hotel’s basement will house shared shower facilities, and the place is rightfully targeted at the young average eSports enthusiasts, the rates will not be over the top. The hotel is expected to start receiving guests starting April 2020.
