In October 1973, Akita Shoten`s Weekly Shonen Champion began serializing Cutie Honey (?????????, Kyuutii Hanii), a new manga by Go Nagai. That month also saw the debut of the CUTIE HONEY anime series by Toei. Both followed the adventures of Honey Kisaragi, an android girl who could transform into the beautiful super heroine Cutie Honey with the words "Honey Flash!" Over the past four decades, Cutie Honey has been featured in manga, film, television and animation, much to the delight of generations of fans. Now the "Warrior of Love" is reimagined for the upcoming live-action film, CUTIE HONEY -TEARS-. The new movie takes a darker approach to the material than seen in previous incarnations. CUTIE HONEY -TEARS- is co-directed by A.T. (Takeshi Asai) and Ryo Higuchi (SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO), with Higuchi supervising the visual effects. After numerous film and television roles, model/singer Mariya Nishiuchi has her first starring performance as Honey Kisaragi/Cutie Honey. Rounding out the main cast are Takahiro Miura as reporter Seiji Hayami, Sousuke Takaoka as Kazuhito Uraki, Nicole Ishida as Sister Jill. Toei will release CUTIE HONEY -TEARS- in Japanese cinemas on October 1st. STORY The late 21st century has become a jet-black world dominated by AI. The city has been divided by class, with the wealthy literally living above the poor. Life is a daily struggle for the lower class, who must deal with dirty rain and pollution from those on top. Hoping to shake up the status quo, a scientist named Dr. Kisaragi creates a new type of AI... one with human emotions. Implanted with the memories of Kisaragi`s daughter, the beautiful android Cutie Honey (Mariya Nishiuchi) confronts the oppressive forces led by another android, Sister Jill (Nicole Ishida).
