    Horror Game Adaptation ZERO THE MOVIE Opens in Japan

    This week, Kadokawa Pictures will release ZERO THE MOVIE (??? ?????, Gekijooban Rei ~Zero~) in theaters across Japan. The film is an adaptation of the novel Rei ~Zero~ Onnanoko Dake ga Kakaru Noroi by Eiji Otsuka, author of MPD Psycho (?????????, Tajuu-Jinkaku Tantei Saiko, 1997) and The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service (???????, Kurosagi Shitai Takuhaibin, 2002), and is based on the hit horror video game series FATAL FRAME (known as ZERO in Japan) that has sold more than 1.3 million copies. Kadokawa is promoting the movie as "the birth of unprecedented paranormal mystery." The lead character in ZERO THE MOVIE is played by Ayami Nakajo, well-known as an exclusive model for the Japanese edition of Seventeen magazine. This will be Nakajo`s first film, though she has acted in the television dramas MISS DOUBLE FACED TEACHER (?????, Kuro no Onna Kyoushi, 2012) and SUMMER NUDE (???????????, Samaanuudo` o Kabaa, 2013). Her co-star, Aoi Morikawa, is also a popular Seventeen model. Like Nakajo, Morikawa began acting on television in 2012. Her recent credits include the feature films THE WORLD OF KANAKO (??, Kawaki, 2014) and JINROH GAME: BEAST SIDE (?????????????, Jinroo Geemu Biisutosaido, 2014). The supporting cast features young actresses Fujiko Kojima (LESSON OF THE EVIL), Karen Miyama (A LETTER TO MOMO), Kasumi Yamaya (CONFESSIONS, LESSON OF THE EVIL), Minori Hagiwara (ROOMMATE) and Yuri Nakamura (FLY WITH THE GOLD, JU-ON: BLACK GHOST). ZERO THE MOVIE is directed by Mari Asato. Asato studied under director Kiyoshi Kurosawa (CURE, PULSE) and writer Hiroshi Takahashi (THE RING), and has helmed the horror films JU-ON: BLACK GHOST (???????,Ju-on: Kuroi Shoujo, 2009) and BILOCATION (????????, Bairokeeshon, 2013).
