    Comscore has announced the official Domestic box office estimates for the weekend of Janauary 28, 2024, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.     An Oscar nomination and the release of the black & white cut MINUS COLOR pushed GODZILLA MINUS ONE back into the Top 10 in the US box office for the first time in more than a month.

    Please note this weekend’s overall total estimated 3-day Domestic box office is $61.1M and YTD 2024 (estimated at $500.5M through Sunday) is down 11% vs. 2023.

    Notable Domestic Openers: 

    • Viva Entertainment opened FIGHTER in 662 locations to a weekend debut of $3,744,054 for a PTA of $5,656 and a domestic cume through Sunday of $4,309,194. The film is a Hindi language Aerial action thriller, a story of Top Indian Air Force (IAF) aviators coming together in the face of imminent danger, to battle the country’s internal and external forces. As Militant activities were going out of control, a new unit, Air Dragons was commissioned by the Air Headquarters, as first responders to any hostile activity, comprising of the best combat aviators handpicked from across the Indian Air Force. FIGHTER unfolds the story of Patty and his mate's camaraderie, brotherhood, and going through the highs and lows of their internal and external battles.
    • SPC opened THE PEASANTS to a debut weekend of $15,180 on 1 screen for a domestic cume through Sunday of $26,678 (includes Academy Run gross). Using a team of animators and painters who work by hand, director Welchman adapts a Nobel prize winning novel about an early 20th Polish peasant woman who creates havoc by marrying an older rich man.
    • IFC Films opened AMERICAN STAR in 47 locations to a debut weekend of $9,001 for a PTA of $192. An assassin on final assignment (Ian McShane) arrives in Fuerteventura to kill a man he has never met.
    • Janus Films released TÓTEM in 1 locations toa debut weekend of $11,402. In a bustling Mexican household, seven-year-old Sol is swept up in a whirlwind of preparations for the birthday party for her father, Tona, led by her mother, aunts and other relatives. As the day goes on, building to an event both anticipated and dreaded, Sol begins to understand the gravity of the celebration this year and watches as her family does the same. This poignant and emotionally expansive film from Lila Aviles (The Chambermaid) cements her skill at directing dynamic ensemble performances in her stunning sophomore effort.
    • Oscilloscope Labs opened Rachel Lambert's 2023 Sundance hit SOMETIMES I THINK ABOUT DYING, starring Daisy Ridley, at two exclusive locations in New York and Los Angeles this weekend taking in $40,460 for an impressive PTA of $20,230. The film easily took the top the per theater average with multiple sold out shows reported at both the Angelika Film Center in New York and AMC's Grove 14 in Los Angeles. 

     

     Notable Domestic Holdovers:

    • Amazon MGM Studios’ THE BEEKEEPER now in weekend 3 claimed the top spot at the box office grossing $7,421,382 with a minimal 14% drop from last weekend and has a domestic cume through Sunday of $42,288,291. Jason Statham stars in this R-rated action film that tells the tale of one man's brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as 'Beekeepers'. 
    • Paramount’s MEAN GIRLS takes the second spot in weekend 3 with an estimated $7.3 million in 3,544 locations for a PTA of $2,060 and a domestic cume through Sunday of $60,805,495.  From the comedic mind of Tina Fey comes a new twist on the modern classic. New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called 'The Plastics,' ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika). Cady must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school. 
    • In the third position Warner Bros.’ WONKA now in weekend 7 in 3,014 theaters earned $5.910 million for a PTA of $1,961 and a domestic cume through Sunday of $195,173,005. The film is based on characters by Roald Dahl, inspired especially by one of Dahl's most beloved characters, Willy Wonka, and takes place before the events of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and features an amazing cast including Timothée Chalamet in the title role, Rowan Atkinson, Tom Davis, Sally Hawkins, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman, Matt Lucas, Simon Farnaby, Keegan-Michael Key and is directed by Paul King.
    • In the 4th spot, Universal's MIGRATION now in weekend 6 and enjoying long-term playability earned $5.150 million in 2,970 locations for a PTA of $1,734 and a domestic cume through Sunday of $101,253,660. Illumination and Universal Pictures present a new original film, MIGRATION, a modern-day comedy following a family of ducks who convince their over-protective father to go on the vacation of a lifetime as they attempt to migrate from New England, through New York City, and ultimately down to the Bahamas. 
    • Rounding out the Top 5, Sony’s reports Columbia’s ever-popular R-rated comedy ANYONE BUT YOU now in weekend 6 earned $4.8 million in 2,885 locations for a PTA of $1,664 for a domestic cume through Sunday of $71,195,538. In this edgy comedy ANYONE BUT YOU, Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) look like the perfect couple, but after an amazing first date something happens that turns their fiery hot attraction ice cold - until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia. So, they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple. The film is directed and co-written by Will Gluck.

     

     Notable Specialized & Post-Oscar Noms Performances: 

    • In 7th, Searchlight’s Oscar nominee POOR THINGS added 900 locations this weekend and earned $3.048 million for a domestic cume through Sunday of $24,792,797.
    • In the 8th spot, MGM’s Oscar nominee AMERICA FICTION added 852 locations and posted a solid $2,896,729 for the weekend as it continues to play into the final leg of the awards season and now has a domestic cume of $11,843,227.
    • GODZILLA MINUS ONE rounds out the Top 10 with an amazing performance in a black and white version that added 1,516 locations this weekend and grabbed up another $2.6 million for a domestic cume through Sunday of $55,009,463.
    • Neon reports Ava Duvernay's ORIGIN added 539 locations in its second weekend for a gross of $1,462,500 for a PTA of $2,203 and a domestic cume through Sunday of $2,502,965.
    • Coming off the heels of five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Jonathan Glazer, ZONE OF INTEREST expanded nationwide this weekend grossing an impressive $1,084,336 on just 317 screens and now has a domestic cume of $3,003,120. With the majority of audiences across top markets under 35, Jonathan Glazer’s masterwork is continuing to cement itself as the most significant work on the subject for a generation. The film will continue to expand throughout awards season.
    • In its 14th week in theaters and after multiple Oscar nominations Focus Features’ THE HOLDOVERS increased its North American theatrical footprint grossing an estimated $520K from 1,267 theaters (+1,143) this weekend.  The film’s estimated cume now stands at $19.3M.
    • Paramount’s Oscar nominee “Killers of the Flower Moon” added 925 locations for a weekend gross of $220k for a domestic cume through Sunday of $67,604,708. 
    • Neon’s Oscar nominee ANATOMY OF A FALL added 355 locations for a weekend gross of $211,500 and a domestic cume through Sunday of $4,194,868.
    • Utopia's THE SWEET EAST opened in LA at Landmark's NuArt this weekend after an eight-week roadshow across the east coast and grossed just shy of $20K on the LA screen, while moving-over in NY at the Cinema Village (to the #1 ranking in the complex) and holding a single weekend show in Montreal. After scoring Utopia's strongest NY opening to date, the film has now also scored the studio's strongest LA single-screen opening and resting at the $163K mark on just 11 screens to date. On Friday February 9th, the film kicks off a long-awaited national expansion as a continued 'roadshow' moves across the Midwest.

    • THE FIGHTER takes off in IMAX!
    • Viacom 18’s THE FIGHTER earns $1.4m in its IMAX Global debut from 150 screens in 15 markets. The Hindi actioner enjoys the 4th Highest IMAX opening ever for a local title in India, earning $575K from 27 screens in the market, an impressive US$21K per screen.
    • Fresh off its 13 Academy Award nominations this past week, Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER returns to the IMAX global network for a limited re-release, earning US$900K and pushing the Universal title to an IMAX cume of $187m. Still #5 on the IMAX all-time biggest title list, globally, OPPENHEIMER crosses $90m in Domestic IMAX box office, only the 3rd title ever to reach this milestone. 
    • MGM/Miramax’s THE BEEKEEPER keeps buzzing in IMAX, earning $510K and reaching an IMAX global cume of $8m.
    • This week finds Universal releasing an Apple Original Film ARGYLLE, directed by Matthew Vaughn, on 760 IMAX screens in 77 markets. Aniplex’s event release of DEMON SLAYER KIMETSU NO YAIBA: TO THE HASHIRA TRAINING ARC opens on 50 IMAX screens in Japan, while Warner Bros.’ WONKA opens on 24 IMAX screens in South Korea.
