Kadokawa Corporation has provided SciFi Japan with a large, high quality image of the promotional artwork for the collaboration between their  GAMERA -Rebirth-  (ガメラ リバース, Gamera Ribāsu, 2023) anime series and the Toho smartphone game "Godzilla Battle Line" (ゴジラ バトルライン, Gojira Batoru Rain).

Directed by Hiroyuki Seshita,  GAMERA -Rebirth- is a 6 episode series based on the live-action Gamera movies that depicts Gamera fighting five enemy kaiju first introduced in films made from 1967-1971. The anime show was released worldwide on Netflix this past September 7th.

Launching in 2021, the "Godzilla Battle Line" game allows players to build their own team of popular monsters and weapons from the Godzilla series to fight other players from all over the world in real time, 3-minute battles. It regularly features tie-ins with the then-latest Godzilla movies and shows like GODZILLA VS. KONG (2021) and GODZILLA: SINGULAR POINT (ゴジラ S.P <シンギュラポイント>, Gojira Shingyura Pointo, 2021). The announcement of a collaboration with GAMERA -Rebirth- came as something of a surprise since it brought together the longtime rival Godzilla and Gamera brands.

The current season of the game, "Final Battle! Godzilla vs Gamera Rebirth" (頂上決戦!ゴジラ vs ガメラ・リバース, Chōjō Kessen! Gojira vs Gamera Ribāsu), offers Kadokawa's Gamera and his foe Gyaos as playable characters alongside Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra and the other Toho monsters.

In celebration of this crossover, Shinji Nishikawa has produced a beautiful illustration depicting the -Rebirth- versions of Gamera and Gyaos with Godzilla Earth, the primary version of Godzilla seen in the Anigoji Trilogy of films -- GODZILLA: PLANET OF THE MONSTERS (GODZILLA 怪獣惑星, Gojira: Kaijū Wakusei, 2017), GODZILLA: CITY ON THE EDGE OF BATTLE (GODZILLA 決戦機動増殖都市, Gojira: Kessen Kidō Zōshoku Toshi, 2018) and GODZILLA: THE PLANET EATER (GODZILLA 星を喰う者, Gojira: Hoshi o Kū Mono, 2018) -- that were co-directed by Hiroyuki Seshiita. Nishikawa is an extremely popular kaiju artist, having created the monster designs for many of the Godzilla movies produced by Toho from 1989 to 2004. He also drew storyboards for Tsuburaya Productions' Ultraman series and designed monsters for the anime series SSSS.GRIDMAN (SSSS.グリッドマン, SSSS.Guriddoman, 2018). His book Godzilla Great Anatomical Picture Book: The Abyss of Monsters Unraveled by Shinji Nishikawa (ゴジラ大解剖図鑑 西川伸司が紐解く怪獣の深淵, Gojira Dai Kaibō Zukan Nishikawa Shinji ga Himotoku Kaijū no Shinen) was released in Japan on August 8th of this year.
