FUKUSHIMA 50 is directed by Setsuro Wakamatsu (WHITEOUT, THE UNBROKEN). Koichi Sato (UNFORGIVEN, TIME TRIP APP, HIT ME ANYONE ONE MORE TIME) and Ken Watanabe (INCEPTION, RAGE, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS) head an all-star cast. STORY At 2:46 pm on March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred. It caused the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident. What happened at the plant? What is the truth? This is the story of the workers who continued fighting at the forefront as the destruction of eastern Japan approached... The Fukushima No.1 Nuclear Power Plant was beset by a giant tidal wave beyond expectations. The power plant suffers complete power failure, and with the atomic reactors no longer being cooled a meltdown can not be averted. Toshio Izaki (Koichi Sato) is the on duty manager of the No.1 and No.2 plants busily overseeing the atomic reactors. Facility chief Masao Yoshida (Ken Watanabe) is in overall command. Despite their efforts and those of others on site, the situation continues to grow worse. A nuclear meltdown draws ever closer, threatening to irradiate a radius of 250 km and threaten the lives of 50 million people.
