Worldwide Box Office Results for Weekend of July 20, 2014 Source: Warner Bros. Entertainment Official Site: Godzillamovie.com This past weekend saw some box office improvement for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ GODZILLA. After opening in 3,952 theaters on May 16th, the numbers had fallen to a low of 303 locations by the July 11-13 weekend. But this weekend saw a slight expansion to 326 as GODZILLA began the transition from first-run cinemas to secondary and "discount" theaters where it will finish out its run before the Blu-ray and DVD release on September 16th. The uptick in theaters also led to higher ticket sales. GODZILLA earned $515,187 for the July 18-20 weekend, more than double what the film made the previous weekend, and has finally crossed $199 million domestically. Worldwide Box Office Results for Weekend of July 13, 2014 Source: Warner Bros. Entertainment Official Site: Godzillamovie.com Nine weeks into its theatrical release, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ GODZILLA has made $198.36 million domestically. The film earned just over $246,000 at 303 theaters in North America over the July 11-13 weekend for 24th place at the box office. Recent projections that GODZILLA would struggle to hit $200 million have proven true and -- barring any last-minute promotions by Warner Bros. -- it will likely become the first film ever to debut over $90 million but fail to reach $200 million by the end of its run. Internationally, GODZILLA added another $500,000 over the past week. Japan is the only major territory where the film has yet to open; Toho will release GODZILLA there on July 25th. Godzilla’s First Major Trip to Korea Author: Kim Song-ho Source: Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival Although he is universally known as The King of the Monsters, Godzilla has rarely landed in the particular nation of Korea. One of the primary reasons is that Korea has forbidden the inflow of Japanese popular culture until 1998, which hindered timely, constant releases of the Godzilla series. The other is that giant monster movies are not that popular in the country (Shim Hyung-rae’s DRAGON WARS, which was a great hit in 2007, is a completely different story). Those two reasons have resulted in such low awareness and mass appeal to giant monster movies in general in the peninsular. But in the 60th anniversary of Godzilla, things seem to be changing, at least a little bit, as The Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PIFAN) will include a Godzilla

An Interview with Michael Schlesinger on His Unmade Project, GODZILLA REBORN Author: Steve Ryfle Special Thanks to Dan Ross and Garry Hayes A SCIFI JAPAN EXCLUSIVE Legendary’s GODZILLA is just the latest in a series of attempts to adapt the Japanese monster in Hollywood’s image dating back to the 1980s. Most of these projects are well documented: Steve Miner’s proposed stop-motion film, the aborted Jan DeBont project, Yoshimitsu Banno’s proposal for Japanese-American IMAX 3-D co-production, and a sequel to TriStar’s 1998 film, directed by Roland Emmerich, that was to be set in Australia. A little known fact, however, is that an American-made sequel to the Japan-made GODZILLA 2000 MILLENNIUM was briefly floated -- a low-budget (by Hollywood standards) project with man-in-suit effects to be produced by Toho technicians. GODZILLA REBORN was the brainchild of one Michael Schlesinger, who is well respected for
